Green Therapies
It is known that gardening brings about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable.
At Tuppenny Barn we work with individuals with mild to moderate mental health issues or who are socially isolated and are considered vulnerable. Social and therapeutic horticulture uses the garden as a safe and secure place to develop an individual’s ability to mix socially, make friends and learn practical skills that will help them to be more independent.
Social & Therapeutic Course Attendee
Using gardening tasks and the garden itself, our therapists build a set of activities for each gardener to improve their particular health needs and to work on certain goals they want to achieve. Gardening activities will include plant propagation, fruit and vegetable growing and general garden maintenance.
We run two sessions every Friday from 10-12 noon and 1.30pm–3.30pm. Due to limited spaces, we ask you to attend regularly but we understand that this is not always possible.
A referral needs to be made by professionals, either social prescribers, GPs, psychiatrists, social workers, support workers or similar. To find out more, email us here
