Primary and Secondary School
Get your hands dirty and cook up a storm. Every year, nearly 2,000 young people walk through the gates of Tuppenny Barn, developing skills for life and inspiring the next generation of sustainability champions.
Our Passion
At Tuppenny Barn, our passion is to engage with children about where their food comes from, from the fork in the ground to the fork on their plate, to inspire them about the natural environment, sustainable horticulture and living sustainably, and to teach important skills for a healthy and varied diet.
Our workshops are developed to fit with, and enrich, relevant areas of the National Curriculum. All sessions are fully inclusive and can be adapted to fit in with specific areas of study and Key Stages. Our programmes are delivered by qualified and experienced teachers, who have completed their Forest School qualification.

Facilities at Tuppenny Barn
Our educators use the natural environment around them to provide experiential learning opportunities and our facilities include:
- Education Centre (with toilets, coat and bag storage, and hand washing facilities).
- Indoor kitchen classroom
- A weather appropriate space to eat your packed lunches.
- Orchard with over 50 varieties of fruit trees
- Beehives
- Pond
- Compost
- Polytunnel, beds and soft fruit cage growing organic fruits and vegetables
- Minibeast & wildlife habitats
- Accessible facilities
- Car parking for cars, minibuses and coaches by arrangement
Our outdoor classroom is fully accessible. We have strong partnerships with SEND schools and are committed to engagement with children from economically deprived areas, recognising the positive impact this has.
Our workshops
Click on the links below to see a list of our current workshops. All can be adapted to fit in with your area of study, Key Stage and needs of pupils. Please note that all visits will include a tour of the organic smallholding.
How much does a visit cost?
Visits cost £11.00 per child + VAT, or £13 per child + VAT if taking part in a fork to fork workshop. Teachers and assisting adults are free and we offer a free pre-visit for teachers. (Please note VAT is refundable to schools under current legislation.)
We have a minimum charge of £264 + VAT per visit. Typically a visit is from 10am – 2pm but we can be flexible with start and finish times. A visit always includes a tour plus you choose 3 workshops (in the link above).

Tuppenny Barn are proud to be Soil Association Organic
members campaigning for healthy, humane and sustainable
food, farming and land use.
Tuppenny Barn is a member of the Organic Growers Alliance which is a network of growers, farmers and horticulturalists. The OGA is a peer-to-peer support network run by growers for growers. As well, the OGA is a place to exchange information and learn and it represents its members.
